What Do You Want To Do Before You Die?

If there is anything that will ignite emotional hunger, it’s unfulfilled dreams and unmet desires. So many people live unfulfilled lives because they stop doing what they truly want and instead do what they are “supposed” to do.

So, what do YOU want to do before you die?

Think about that for a brief moment and answer with the very first thought that comes to mind. Don’t let your mind run wild and start to analyze the why or the how, just go with the first thing that pops into your head.

In the blog below copy and paste this section and fill in your answers. Remember, don’t over-think this or get tangled up in practicalities: just read the question and answer with the very FIRST thing that comes into your head.

Even if it’s totally ridiculous! Forget about what you “should” do.

What is it that you REALLY want to do with your life?

What excites you?

What feels impossible?

Be honest with yourself; your answers don’t need to make an impression on anyone but you.

Some examples:

Start your own business
Go on a road trip with your best friend
Join the Peace Corps
Sing in a jazz band
Cuddle a koala
Explore a foriegn country
Study abroad
Become a wine connoisseur
Dive to the bottom of the ocean
Learn a new language
Spend a romantic weekend in Paris
Bungee jump
Climb to the top of Kilimanjaro

Now, this is where it gets interesting.

As you look at the list you created, pick the one answer that excites you the most and imagine having it. Really step into it and imagine you are being, doing, feeling that thing as vividly as you can. Notice how your body feels in this moment, do you feel scared? Excited? Scared and excited at the same time?

Stay with this feeling and next, imagine you have your favorite treat in front of you. Chocolate, cookies, ice cream…look down at the food and notice how appetizing it looks right now. Do you really want it in this moment? Or does it seem rather unappetizing?

When you stop feeling excited about your life, you eat. You look to food to provide pleasure and excitement versus stepping out of your comfort zone and going after what you truly desire.

On that list were 100 things they wanted to do before they died, which included:

Appear on Oprah
Produce a TV show
Write a bestselling book
Play basketball with Obama

And they fulfilled every single one.

    I want to re-read the magical books that I have already read, where I enter into a world so clear that I can feel the cold, hear the hush, see the trees etc and I want to find more books with that kind of superb writing.

    I also want to teach better than ever and create more wonderful materials than ever.

    Both dreams are quite possible. My only difficulty is managing tiredness as the teaching wears me out but I can do some of both.

      Thanks for sharing rosemary.. I LOVE teaching too. Imagine taking your energy from the earth rather than your body. That should help with the fatigue. :-)

    I love to create. Ideas flow into my mind and I daydream about new paintings every. single. day. You are so right. I get started, then I get scared and then I’m eating. But if
    I do push through it and try…then there is no stopping me. Time stops and I am in this happy creating state. I feel more alive than ever in this mode. And people love my work and ask for more. I feel like that is who I truly am meant to be. I allow food to block me. I’m 28 with a lot of potential. I want to feel at home in my body so I can create!

      Thats beautiful Katie.. We are always afraid of how powerful and successful with have the potential to be, so we will hide ourselves, with food… Lots of work to be done here but congratulations on the first part, seeing the truth. :-)

    As I read your words, what came up was: I WANT TO LIVE!!!!! And then I started coughing like crazy…lovely shift in energy…thank-you…Now i just have to figure out what that means to me as I’m already someone who has her own wonderful business, travels around the world (business class so money is not a problem), madly in love with her man, amazing friends, loving family etc. There seems to be something ‘missing’, I just have to figure out what that is…thank-you Brittany!
