The day I couldn't move...

Blog

THISHASTOBEUPDATED

I just finished my daily walk on the beach (one of my favorite things about living in the Caribbean) and I felt inspired to share a story with you…

This is the first time I've spoken about this, partly because it was a problem I hadn’t been able to solve…until now.

Stressed, depressed, and *gasp!* helpless

18 months ago I woke up and couldn’t get out of bed. I knew something was wrong with my health since I hadn’t had my period in over 6 months…

I felt tired all the time, I needed endless amounts of coffee to stay awake, and despite how much tapping I did, I STILL CRAVED chocolate!

But this day was different…there I was, lying in my bed with absolutely no desire to move. It felt like there was a huge boulder on top of me…and the worst part was, I didn’t even care…

I felt depressed for months, and as I lay there unable to move, an even deeper level of depression kicked in…

I’m helpless…

Something a type–A, go-getter girl like me VOWS to NEVER be… helpless…

I wallowed in my helplessness for a few weeks (poor me) until that got old and I decided that no one was going to fix this problem for me.

So I called my nutritionist friend, who immediately referred me to a specialist, and in about 30 minutes I was diagnosed with stage 3 adrenal fatigue.

What are adrenals and why are they so worn out?!

She explained that loss of energy, cravings (especially for chocolate), incessant coffee drinking and hormonal imbalance were all signs that my adrenals were very depleted.

Your adrenals are walnut-sized, triangular-shaped glands that sit right on top of your kidneys. They produce more than 50 different hormones that are essential for energy and stamina, a sharp mind, a strong immune system, and a healthy libido.

Aside from all that, your adrenals have a huge job to do...they help you deal with stress.

You're under stress 24/7...with challenging career and family obligations...tough deadlines at work...financial worries...traffic jams... flight delays... and more.

Your adrenal glands never get a break. Mine sure didn’t…

Which is how I found myself face-up, unable to get out of bed.

How to heal adrenal fatigue

Being the curious, problem-solving sleuth I am, I dove headfirst into every book I could find on hormonal imbalance and adrenal fatigue.

I could write an entire book on it at this point, and I plan to start giving you tips and advice to overcome stress, fatigue, and imbalance in the coming months.

I would venture to say that most women living in today’s world have some sort of adrenal fatigue...and if you struggle with this, I want to help you heal it.

Here’s my first quick tip to help you turn your adrenal health around in less time.

Ashwagandha: An all-natural, herbal solution

Ashwagandha, an ancient Indian herb, has been used therapeutically for centuries.

Taking this herb promotes energy, strength, and stamina and is also known to recharge your whole system (and even provides a mild aphrodisiac effect...wink wink!).

Ashwagandha is highly regarded in herbal medicine for its direct benefits to the health and function of your adrenal glands and endocrine (hormonal) system.

Once I started using this, my energy levels started to improve massively. I had more mental clarity, my depression lifted, and my cycle returned to normal.

Organic India offers affordable, sustainably harvested, high-grade Ashwagandha (and their maker, Dr. Mercola, even talks about the benefits of EFT for stress!).

I have no affiliation with this company, but if you’d like to buy a bottle I highly recommend them. You can get a bottle of 90 capsules for about $14.

If this is something you’ve struggled with, I hope you found this helpful, and I would LOVE for you to share it with anyone else you know who may be experiencing adrenal fatigue.
